The first step requires signing up to a round of networking via the Corporate Connection App website. By doing this, you agree to be paired with another corporate professional so that you can both organise a one-on-one catchup with each other. The goal is to create a genuine corporate contact outside your current organisation.
You will then receive an email (on the weekend before the catchup) containing information on the professional with whom you will be networking during this round. This contains their contact information.
Contact your matched corporate professional and organise a time and place to meet up in person in your locality. We strongly recommend meeting on a workday either before work or during lunch. The recommended duration of a catchup is between 30 and 60 minutes, but this is entirely up to you.
This is where you make your genuine corporate contact outside your organisation. Whether they be from your own profession or another, this new contact could lead to discovering potential job opportunities, signing new clients, or learning about new industry insights.
You should ask what the person you've connected with does in their role, what their experience is, and see how you could both benefit from networking with one another.
An example of where to meet is at a local coffee shop, so that you can both connect in a relaxed environment and both have the option to purchase coffee (at your own expense).
We also strongly recommend using this round's icebreaker:
Everyone has one subject they know a whole lot about. What’s yours?
How could this all play out?
Hypothetical scenario 1. Two accountants from different firms might benefit from networking with one another by discovering job opportunities at each other's firms. One might find a job, another might help add a new employee to their team.
Hypothetical scenario 2. A lawyer and a mining professional might benefit from networking with one another by the lawyer later signing on the mining professional's firm as a client. The lawyer might benefit from signing a new client for their firm, the mining professional might benefit by knowing a legal professional to help the mining firm navigate a legal issue.
Hypothetical scenario 3. An IT professional and a marketing professional might benefit from networking with one another by offering each other's firm's services. The IT professional might offer IT solutions to the marketing firm and the marketing firm could help the IT firm with its marketing mechanics.
If you enjoyed your corporate catchup, sign up for the next round on the Corporate Connection App website!
